Your Vacation is Cancelled... Now what?
Published Wednesday, April 15th 2020 - Updated Thursday, April 16th 2020In the span of just a couple of month, we have gone from being blissfully ignorant to the Coronavirus to it dictating almost every aspect of our lives. We went from hugging our family and friends to not seeing them for weeks on end. And we went from looking forward to senior trips, anniversary trips, summer vacations, and even short getaways to having them cancelled for who knows how long…
Today, we are probably spending more time with those under our own roofs than ever before and desperately in need of a getaway, even if it’s with those same people.
So if your vacation was cancelled, or you just need a getaway, here’s a few suggestions to give you a little taste of vacation from the safety of your home:
1. Do a virtual vacation!
With the joys of the internet come virtual ways that you can walk through museums, hike the national parks, ride the rollercoasters at Disney, see broadway shows, and much more. Here’s a couple of links you can check out:

The National Zoo in Washington D.C. has webcams for you to watch some of your favorite animals.

Check out this website with information about how to watch some breath-taking Broadway musicals.

Here is a list of museums that you can virtually visit. (Pro Tip: this could be a virtual field trip for kiddos)

- Take a virtual scuba dive.
2. Prepare for your next vacation.
I know it’s hard get past the uncertainty of when we can travel next, but this will end and we will be able to travel again. Let’s start planning, dreaming and getting ready for that day! Do you know where you want to go? Who will you take with you? When do you want to go? What do you want to do?

- Lay out in your backyard
- Put umbrellas in your drinks
- Pull out the beach toys or let the kids play in the water hose or sprinkler
- Use a sound machine app to listen to the waves of the ocean
- Learn how to hula
